Best Recovery Tips To Follow After Lap Band Surgery

Though surgeons prescribe medicines for quick recovery, still there are some tips, that if followed can lead to even quicker recovery after the lap band surgery. Here are some of them:

1. Stay away from alcohol, fats, sugar and soda. They don’t help the body in any way except piling up the empty calories and ultimately fat. In fact, they can completely reverse the weight loss cycle, leaving you back at where you started. So, beware of them.

2. Follow your surgeon’s advice and instructions religiously. Don’t start working till he tells you to. In fact, don’t do anything without seeking his advice first because remember that he has your best interests at heart.

3. You can’t just stop doing exercise by giving the excuse that you have had surgery and don’t need any exercise. What surgery does is give you a good platform for weight management but that can be spoilt if you stop making any further efforts. So, keep hitting the gym even after the lap band surgery.

4. Keep an eye out for any complications. They may start off as very small symptoms and can be easily warded off, if treated on time. The symptoms may range from fever, bleeding to excessive pain. These symptoms are an indicator that the lap-band might have slipped or might be over-filled.

5. There is a significant change in the bowel movements after the lap band surgery. In fact, some may find it extremely difficult to adjust to the new routine but don’t lose your heart. This will take only some time till you adjust to it. Make sure to drink lots of water and you will be fine in a few days. Your surgeon might even prescribe a stool softener in the early stages. Be sure to follow all his instructions.

6. Make sure to go to all your appointments with the surgeon. They are as important as the surgery was. They are entirely to monitor your progress and track any signs of any future complications.
